Week 1

This time last week, I was sipping bourbon in Atlanta, Georgia living it up with my girlfriend on a spur of the moment business trip, and today I am working my fifth day straight with at least two more days to go. No complaints.

I managed to get a few days off of work, with a bit of bribery and good fortune, so off we went to research bar to throw parties in for one of her clients, basically we went bar hopping for free for a few nights. We visited a great restaurant Friday night named Tin Lizzy’s Cantina. I had a mexican inspired skillet filled with cheese, chicken and peppers, onions and seasoned with a mexican blend of herbs and spices. The food I found to be average, bar service was fantastic and friendly and the drinks were made to perfection. If your in the Atlanta area check them out or check them out here

After dinner we went to various bars in the Buckhead area. These were your pretty standard run of the mill themed bars popular with the fresh out of college crowd. Followed by a night cap at a hotel whiskey lounge.

Saturday started with lunch at The Varsity after an hour wait, at this famous landmark fast food joint I was not too impressed by the burger, it was your pretty standard local fast food burger, a chile dog with an all meat chile fries and some onions rings overall a 6 out 10. After lunch we drove to Top Golf, think sports bar with a driving range in your lounge room. It was pretty cool, full bar, huge three story driving range, it was a mans paradise.  We then went to Painted Pins bowling where we met up with friends enjoyed some great cocktails and through a few gutter balls. We ate dinner at Antico which serves traditional italian pizza baked right in front of you. After sitting out side across the street at the italian market we decided to go out for drinks to check out one more location then home to catch our flights.

Well we missed our flights got home late, I was late for work and so began my next 5 days, working through the monotony of restaurant service work. Although I do enjoy it, I’m feeling this fire inside of me growing more and more, that I do not want to work for someone and I want to build an  amazing local restaurant where people flock to gorge on amazing bar food, quench their thirst on amazing cocktails all made and served by people who are engaging and love their job. I want to do this for myself, to build the future I want for myself and eventual family. But to do this I must put in the hard yards and grit my teeth and fight to build my dream.

First

After some deep thought and discussions with my loved ones I have decided to seriously pursue my goals of owning and operating a successful restaurant. I will be making sacrifices like I have not done since playing rugby and will dive full on into this with a take no prisoners approach. Success is the only option. I want to be able to build a future for myself doing what makes me happy.

I am currently a bartender in Westport, CT but want more for myself, so here we go.
